Crossing himself before climbing the tree was a nice touch...
I guess you could say it worked since he ain't dead........LOL

Bad decision making. He tied off the branch first by a rope. This took away the natural path the branch would have taken due to gravity. All that energy had to go somewhere so it went the only way it could....towards the guy cutting the branch at the base. Never should have tied that sucker off. Or if he had to he should have tied it closer to the base so the rope would be perpendicular to the ground so it would not swing.

Ouch!
Would make a good safety training film, I’d say!
Yeah, there’s things I’ll do with a chain saw and things I won’t do. This sits firmly in the “won’t do” column.

A friend of mine has a tree trimming business here in S.E. Michigan. A number of years ago he told me about his sister who attempted to cut a large limb off a tree in her backyard. Evidently it was very high and the ladder was barely able to reach it. So she was at the top of the ladder, when she cut the limb off, the remaing branch which had been weighted down, of course lost the weight and snapped up, throwing her and the ladder backwards. She was seriously hurt with a broken back and internal injuries as well.....

That Liveleak video is actually one of the tamer ones. The site is well known for posting gore. Beheadings, murders, nasty accidents and the like. Not a good site for the squeamish.

People with the imagination to foresee things like this, lead boring lives.

No undercut / backside cut? I’ve dropped 50’ trees between two others in the wind.

50’ Tree? Are you kidding me. Hope you did not take it down in swoop.

No kidding. We had 50’ tall cedars that we used the first part of the stem for fence corners and the rest for line posts. We'd cut down with a single wedge back-cut and then drop them from the other side. It was kind of hard if the diameter was much more than the length of the blade.

Sounds like I'm glad that I don't have streaming here on dialup.
