I’m betting you get nowhere near paying federal income taxes. And I agree we shouldn’t be paying to take care of you forever. Everyone pays into SS. That’s no reason to make us take care of you when you suck way more out than you paid in. It’s your and your family’s responsibility. I’m shocked at all these freepers who are exactly the problem they espouse to oppose.
More air.
Dude, at 65% (SSDI+private plan) and I’m still about 2/3 the way to the max wage base — the wage where you stop paying SSI tax. My private plan pays 2x what SSDI pays, and since I don’t have an employer I pay both ends. Thats 6.2% twice. Which comes to 2/5ths of what SSDI pays me. That’s just SSI, I still pay federal and state income tax on my total income.
So all taxes total, I pay just about what I get from SSDI at the 28% tax bracket.
And the only reason why I’m on SSDI is that the private plan requires me to be eligible for SSDI benefits.
So tell me again how you’re subsidizing me?
Thats no reason to make us take care of you when you suck way more out than you paid in.
Umm.. SS was sold to us as “insurance” people buy “insurance” for just what your complaining about. I insure my house in case something destroys it. I’ll never pay in premiums what it costs the insurance company to replace it.
So before you go off on someone, think about it. Do you buy insurance on your home or cars thinking the insurance company will only pay up to the amount you paid them? Insurance companies spread the risk out over ALL their policy holders. Charging more or less depending on what your insuring and where it is.
Disability insurance is you betting you will become disabled and the insurance company (in this case Social security) is betting you won’t.
