So if the dollar collapse how much to you think a barrel of oil would cost? How much would a gallon of gasoline cost made from that oil?

I don't think this will matter Kartographer, even though I know the point you wish to make. I know that your preppers thread appeals to a wide margin of folks, and perhaps I am within that margin - barely.

I do not foresee the availability of oil and gasoline at any cost, at least not within the cost that Me and Mine would be willing to pay.

I think we are going to an unforeseen place.

KC, that last sentence is more than profound. I think we're going to a place that has not been seen in our nation in our lifetimes.

But that doesn't mean it hasn't happened before, either here or abroad. Recall WW2, and the utter devastation of Europe. No living American recalls the Chicago Fire, or Sherman's March to the Sea. Those are just a few incidents; there are many more throughout the histories.

We can use these histories like a lantern, lighting the few steps ahead so that we're not stumbling into the darkness, blind and unknowing of the perils before us.
