Huh? Here's an article from Aug. of 2009 where he was suggesting "major gains for the GOP" from US News. Nate Silver sees major gains for GOP in 2010
His model does a lot more than simply average polls, that's what RCP does, but even that is pretty accurate.

Averaging polls is completely unreliable.
