When one of my son's came home after school and told me he was taking cooking and sewing as a class, I asked him WHY. He laughed and said that's where all the girls are..His cooking skills were way beyond what they taught (he knew his way around a kitchen by 10 years old cause I didn't kick my kids out of the kitchen if they were interested when they were young, I taught them.) He was disgusted with what they taught, but he did learn a little on using the sewing machine>>> My son was a football/track jock and his track team (forgot which one) I think it was the 4 man relay..... went on to the state finals....Started playing varsity football in 11th grade... He still likes the ladies...at 50...

My mom was the same way, and her attitude was that if you were old enough to read a recipe you were old enough to cook. Started with the fun stuff (cookies, cakes and brownies when I was six years old) and by the time I was eight I could prepare my own meals unsupervised.
