The Mars rover Opportunity is currently exploring a location known as Cape York along the western rim of a giant Martian crater called Endeavour. I wouldn't be surprised to find glassivation at the edge of a crater, which this photo sort of resembles.

I wouldn't be surprised to find glassivation at the edge of a crater, which this photo sort of resembles. Meteor hits, tosses molten material up in the air. Surface tension draws the falling molten bits into spheres. They solidify in the cold Martian air before they hit the ground.

The raw photos for this image were taken on Sol 3064, the most recent set in the
raw image gallery. The next most recent were taken on Sol 3027, and these do appear glassy. In fact, their appearance is certainly stranger yet, on the face of it:
