Amazon surrendered. Too bad. I love Amazon. They held out for a long while, but I’m not sure they had any choice. Other options must be explored.

If Amazon has distribution centers or warehouses in state I can understand the tax,
but many states don't host Amazon and they shouldn't tax. They started taxing here
in Texas and I paid it this time because I needed new pants that I couldn't find locally.
I will avoid them in the future and plan my purchases more carefully.

I would rather support surrounding business' anyway to help keep the local retail industry healthy.

That’s right, Amazon didn’t have any other choice. CA is a big state that they couldn’t afford not to have a presence in, and the Lib, Dem State forced them into it as they are so desperate for more money to fill their coffers for more social spending and the state is broke. It’s for the children, you know.

Meanwhile, there is more than one way to skin a cat. Amazon needs more warehouses for their goods, so they will now open new ones in CA where they are stuck having to pay the sales tax anyway (Amazon, like all other big box/catalog businesses have to collect sales taxes in states where they have a physical presence). So, Amazon may as well make use of CA for their warehouse facilities now that they are stuck collecting sales tax there, and at least get something out of it. Actually, this will work to the benefit of the high amount of unemployed population in CA as at least some of them can now get jobs at the new warehouses, as well as the new construction of them producing jobs too.
