I am dreading this weekend... Why? Because it is time for me to pay a visit to my rather large family across town. Large party planned... did I tell you they were all Democrats? (as was I, back in the day...). We no longer discuss politics, because it is not possible with them. To them, all conservatives are either evil, or stupid. They think I am an exception to the rule or something. They think that opposition to Obama is largely racist, they buy into the "war on women" crap, in short, they believe everything they see on CNN and MSNBC.

Now, its not a problem for me, because being a conservative, my politics is not MY LIFE, so I dont have to discuss it, or relate every little thing that happens to politics. But they do, or at least some of them do.

The closer we get to the elections, the more this will be the case, and at this time, it truly pains me to be around them, as much as I love them all.

The best I can do is try to deflect the conversations, or take them in a direction we both agree in (crony capitalism is bad, etc, blah blah)..

I have gotten to the point where no matter what outrage or idiocy I hear on their part, I won't say anything. Its just not worth it, especially if my parents are around. One on one though, some of them do listen, but in a group, forget it. Liberals are bullies, its their nature.

Your weekend plans sound pretty awful, Paradox. I can’t understand how people can “not talk politics” at family gatherings.

Everything leads back to it: the economy, housing market, world affairs, the economy, price of gas.

And to have to about their crazy beliefs? I say STAY AWAY from them, at least until after the election. And if Obama should happen to win, don’t ever talk to them again cuz it’ll be due to drones like them that our country goes up in flames.

I am also an ex-Dem, from my youth. But I was more of a Scoop Jackson/Sam Nunn Dem (pro defense, considered the Soviets to be almost the Antichrist). At about the time of the McGovern campaign, I noticed a sickening leftward, almost anti-American move (cutting the US down to size - now who else has that worldview, hmmm?). As Ronaldus Magnus said, “I did not leave the Democratic Party, the Democratic Party left me”.

Y’all are missing something important. Jon Stewart. They not only get all their new from a fake news show, they get their mannerisms and filthy mouths from him and think that he makes them cool. Get them talking about Comedy Central, and then come back and tell me about it.

I have a similar large family but at least my cousins and a couple of siblings are conservative. I can't even do one-on-one with my liberal siblings. I left a treasured book for my sister to read, Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn's "A Warning To The West" and she said she flipped through it but decided that it is irrelevant since "it was written in the 1970s". I replied to her that a book she had loaned me was written about something in the 1960s but it didn't make it irrelevant. Liberals do not want to know the truth.

It’s amazing isn’t it? ...but of course Fox News is biased and there’s no liberal media.

Stunning.
