Now, its not a problem for me, because being a conservative, my politics is not MY LIFE, so I dont have to discuss it, or relate every little thing that happens to politics. But they do, or at least some of them do.
The closer we get to the elections, the more this will be the case, and at this time, it truly pains me to be around them, as much as I love them all.
The best I can do is try to deflect the conversations, or take them in a direction we both agree in (crony capitalism is bad, etc, blah blah)..
I have gotten to the point where no matter what outrage or idiocy I hear on their part, I won't say anything. Its just not worth it, especially if my parents are around. One on one though, some of them do listen, but in a group, forget it. Liberals are bullies, its their nature.
I have a liberal friend that will at least engage without getting insulting (mostly, I’ve had to train him on that - we’re old friends). When it comes to general capability and professionalism he does well, by no means “a stupid guy”. Yet I can’t but wonder how on earth you can be “not stupid” and then be so completely clueless in understanding the world around them, or human nature for that matter. He’ll spout off liberal talking points, then accuse Fox News of bias. He doesn’t believe there’s “liberal bias” in the news. You can point to specifics, it just doesn’t matter.
I sometimes debate him just to analyze how he must come to his conclusions, you inevitably get to a point where you just think - he’s insane! I could state that water is wet, I’m sure he’d argue. He says he agrees with Christian philosophy, yet sees no difference in comparison to Islam. To him, Islam is just what Muslims claim, that Mohammed was the “next prophet” after Christ. You can discuss philosophical points, the Ottoman Empire, the crusades, inquisition, life of Mohammed, etc. etc. ....he’ll just say, “yeah, so all religions have their radical elements”.
That’s the conclusion you come to? Yet the Islamic world is a barbaric $hit hole and western society prospered? ...no, there’s no difference at all ;)
It’s almost as though he does see the light, he just doesn’t want to. As though he’s trying to shield himself from it. He’d rather it didn’t exist because to admit that it did would mean he’d have to fundamentally question everything he believes.
Last time I asked if he believed in “truth”. An absolute, regardless of whether we realize it, truth. He says no. This is their other problem, there’s no concrete truths. Everything is just morally relative. Literally, 1+1 may not equal 2.
Thing is, they’ll tell you - they became a liberal because liberals are “open minded”. I’ve begun to realize those are the most two dangerous words in the world. You can be infinitely open minded about any bizarre concept, but it creates a fog through which you can no longer see the truth. Being open to all alternatives only leads to the truth being a very small part of your perception....to the point where people don’t see it at all. That’s a neat trick. Those that want to live in the dark ultimately want others to also exist there with them. ...the deceit goes on.

My wife went for drinks with a friend of hers tonight. Her friend was meeting some of her colleagues from work. They were all flaming libtards. She said she tried to hang in there for a while listening to them until one of them said Obama reminded him of John Kennedy. My wife said: “Do you mean John F. Kennedy, or some other John Kennedy you know?” The guy said President Kennedy. My wife told them: “You people are nuts, I have to go!” I told her that what’s you get for associating with liberals. They are sick people!You people are nuts, I have to go!
After all that time, I now know how to construct and maintain a self-sustaining cremation pit for leftist bodies.

One thing that works with liberals is to agree with them then take it in another direction. For instance, liberals are advocating banning hate speech against Islam (Shira) but that would mean banning hate speech against Christians and Jews, too. Just say that you are really sick of the hate speech in this country, harassing Christians, harassing Jews, pitting race and class against each other and threatening and inciting violent protests and race riots...
Then they have to argue for their hate speech...while telling you why the Egyptian wacko who did the film should be banned for his hate speech.
Every American must consider the consequences of what they advocate for. Liberals must consider the day when conservatives are back in the driver’s seat using the unjust power they gave to themselves and vice versa. The constitution’s Bill of Rights is where we should have common ground. What you do comes back to you.
welcome to the party pal...I do not associate with people who would walk into a polling place on election day and vote for big government to confiscate yet more money - - other people’s money - - from their friends and neighbors, as well as from complete strangers. I find that behavior so boorish and rude there is no way I could be civil to a scumbag Democrat. When I find out somebody is a scumbag Democrat I want to spit right in his or her face. And I don’t hide it.
You can’t rationalize anything with irrational people, as you no doubt found out first hand.
Why would you want to find middle ground with leftists?
I wonder if they know or care that the reason the Left is blaming the video is that they need to curb Free Speech in order to take full control of the People. Every time they blame a movie/cartoon/phrase for someone else's mindless violence, I cringe because I know the only reaso to do so is to "establish" that the "abuse" of Free Speech is so serious that they "need" to do something to whittle away at it.
The best place to fight those people is with faceless handles on youtube comments. That’s the place to hit them right between the eyes. It’s the closest I’ve found to a level playing field.
I’ve been giving liberals wet willy s since Windows 95 on the newsgroups. I’ve learned a lot over the years. The best way to stay sane in the endeavor is not read their replies and don’t reply to replies. I still do it on facebook every night. I am relentless. I do it over and over without regard for what is said about me. Every night. Over and over. I’ve been called every name in the book. One thing I’ve learned is ignoring a liberal gets them really pissed. I get a lot of material from FR plus I follow about 80 people on twitter. I get a lot of material from @iowahawkblog.
I post on IMDB forums which are 95% liberal

The controversy wasn't strictly in the CONTENT of that piece, it was FUNDED by taxpayer money (an NEA grant) and if I recall in a taxpayer funded exhibit.
The same separation of church and state that prohibits the government from funding pro-Christian displays prohibits anti-Christian works from being funded by the same government.
