Smaller denomination. Try trading a gold ingot or even a gold coin for something, how do you make change?

Just buy Night Train!

How about I just keep making my own 9% homebrew? ;)

Unfortunately, I don’t have a garden anymore. But my dad grows plenty. And his hangs in his shop.

I was up at my bro’s the other day. He says you like my horseradish patch? OMG. O M G ;-)

Johnny take some pride man! Can’t compare your home brew to Night Train. That’s like comparing Dom Pérignon to Bartles & Jaymes! ;-)

“SHTF School site says the #1 thing was disposable lighters. It turned out that everyone needed them, not just smokers.’

I have a co-worker friend from Hungary who told me of someone at home who devised a way to refill disposable lighters. He had a good sized propane tank and could trade a lighter refill for a can of corned beef. According to the story this guy always had food.

I think stocking ammo is a good thing. Once the shooting starts we’ll know who is on our side and ammo can be of great value. Those that are paranoid and think the ammo would be shot back at them, well, you’ll never survive alone.

Can’t compare your home brew to Night Train.

Both are effective solvents for virginity and common sense.

My homebrew is more to enhance my position for trading, and not just for trading itself. A couple of those, and I'll be able to get an SUV for a lawnmower. ;)

someone at home who devised a way to refill disposable lighters.

If my useless son-in-law lived closer, I could assign that task to him. Seems a little hazardous. ;)

I have often wondered what to do if medicine could not be available for a long time, does anyone know of alternative sources of medicines such as traditional medicines that can be used in place of modern pharmeceuticals?

Check your local liquor store for any special buys on miniature bottles. Small 50mL bottles will make excellent trade for smaller items, while larger bottles would be best saved for big-ticket trades.

I would think vinegar would be important as well. Necessary for canning, useful for cleaning and sanitizing.

I did an inventory of my canning jars yesterday...I have 75 cases of jars, lids and rings. That's 900 jars, mostly quart size..I got them at garage sales for $0.10-0.15 per jar.

They could be barter items in the future, especially when I have the canning pots necessary to use them too.

I've also been collecting the tools necessary for maintaining a garden...more barter items.

For sterilizing, remember that 70% alcohol kills bacteria but it takes 90% alcohol to kill viruses. I don't bother with 70% any more.

Also, bleach loses about 50% strength in one year.

And while it is possible to produce sugar in a variety of forms, there is no way to grow salt.

There was a FReeper a year or so ago who was complaining that their well water was too salty to drink. That would be one of the few ways to get it.

My cat could earn her keep. She brings me rabbits that she kills without breaking the skin, and she eats any mice that dare threaten my pantry!

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Bleach/water solution for disinfecting is only good for 24 hours.
