Word For The Day, September 11, 2012
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
billet-doux [bil-ey-doo, bil-ee-; Fr. bee-yey-doo]
-n
a love letter.
[ 166575; < French: literally, sweet note. See billet1 , douce ]
Good One....LOL!
Wonder where they parked their brooms....
...and will they still be there when they go to retrieve them?
Wait, thats from the convention...
Oh....
Here the one....
Perhaps I’ve sent Mary Lou Retton a billet doux toux many? After the last one, her lawyers said they’ll start enforcing the restraining order if I do not cease and desist. Some people...
i totes believe you’ve done that....
While these big chicks are off, maybe they can hit the gym.
like a ton of bricks ROR!
Although Joe Biden be a doo-doo, he gets many a billet-doux from the Dem faithful...
Maybe potheads are meticulous about self-examination?
Those angry harridans in xs’s post might consider looking in a full length mirror-they could afford to miss a few meals. That sort of takes the relevance out of their poor, starving teachers’ rant...
Rahm of Chicago is getting
The reward for his loyalty-
Angry teachers union members
As far as the eye can see
Obama must have been angry
And dropped the other shoe-
He threw Rham to the lions
Without even a billet-doux
With Ryan an odd supporter
Chicago’s mayor will find
Politics brings weird allies
If you’re dissed by Obama’s kind
I actually love that movie, their politics might scare me though.
My contractor compadre and I were talking earlier about where we were, and what brought the point home first about what had just happened on 9-11. We agreed that it was the complete and eerie silence at the jobsite we were working on. The location was off all main roads, but it was smack in the middle of the flight pattern of LAFB, so there was always the noise of military planes overhead before.
With just the sound of the wind and birds, it was like the world had ended-we turned down the radio, and were talking in whispers about how we were suddenly at war, because thousands had likely been murdered. The workers who were reservists were already planning for the return to active duty and deployment. We must never, ever forget that day.
We have children growing into their teen years with no idea what happened. I am going to pull out my DVD of that day and play the early parts of the planes hitting buildings as they have no chance to see it on TV today. RME They need to know what our history is.
i was at work at my desk and read about it as it was happening, on FR. by the time the second plane hit, i knew i was going to go and get my kids from school. luckily at that stage they were all at st james together in one place. didn’t wait for dispensation to go by anyone at work, i just booked it out of there, and was able to beat the throngs. Most of the bridges were closed, i think i got all the way to the Theodore Roosevelt before i could cross to VA. there was talk about Shanksville at that point, which they were describing as near Pittsburgh. My dad was still alive and i was worried exactly where that plane had gone down.
They're not so little anymore, the first son just started College this year....an Engineering Student at Auburn.....we're so proud of him.
So we'll just have to save that movie for the future grandchildren a decade or so from now.
xsbaby just emailed to ask if she could skip school to work the Romney/Ryan rally on Thursday in Fairfax very near our house. i am going to Las Vegas with xshub, so i said the only way i would permit it is if one of the campaign peeps she works with could come get her and bring her back home afterward. xsteen is in charge of getting her to and from school in my absence, and will have to take leave in order to pick her up, so this would obviate one day of that. heck, i would take off work to go if i was going to be home, my own self. if i’m not mistaken, it’s the same location where xshub went to see Palin when she was first nominated.
That is scary-you were so much closer to the strikes than those of us here to the south.
something i think about often is the fact that my building sits over a tunnel, and we are on the very first floor. a truck bomb under there and that’s all she wrote.
That is so true-and without video evidence, no one would ever believe that democrats in congress mananged to behave like decent human beings, participating in a show of solidarity, even if it was only for a couple of days. Maybe the videos of that day should be aired every time they act out like spoiled children.
