It really depends upon what you list as ‘the damage’. If it were just the value of the dollar, that is repairable through spending cuts and inflation. If, on the other hand, you are referring to the attitude of the majority of voters, well, Novermber will answer that. BUT if you are referring to the mindset of the political oligarchs, well, We The People Republic died years ago.

No its not. We have a shit load of debt, to be sure. We need to get rid of a shit load of government (entire agencies), drill and harvest our own resources and get government regulations completely out of the way. We have swaths of natural resources that could have us out of debt and owning the world if it weren’t for Directive 10-289 types in DC. Cut (massively) “entitlements” and we can come back from the brink.

Maybe not beyond repair, but will take some mighty strong medicine. Like slashing Federal spending even though you have rioting in the streets and they're calling you every name in the book on the nightly news.

My fear is I just don't think Romney has that in him.
