I recall reading somewheres that the judge that would have to rule on Akin's petition, if he were in fact to make one to have himslef removed from the ballot, is a reliable democrat hack.

Anyone know?

That would be Robyn Carnahan, Secretary of State, a rabid Democratic hack, who can and would oppose and tie up in court any petition to withdraw from the race.

The judge is all but required to grant the petition, if you look at Missouri election law.
