Points after today’s race:
Alonso 179
Hamilton 142
Raikkonen 141
Vettel 140
Webber 132
Button 101
Seven races to go. That’s a maximum of 175 points for any one driver (very unlikely). Alonso has the edge right now, but it’s far from over.
With the 25 - 18 - 15 - 12 - 10 point system for the top five, the points to be had are 175 - 126 - 105 - 84 - 70. Gentlemen, start your calculators.
Red Bull has reliability problems + they’re not near the front in terms of top speed. On a track like Monza I have to wonder why they didn’t go for a higher top speed setup. Too much tire degradation then, like Mercedes?
Does that Red Bull Renault engine come with a Paris-Rhône (Valeo) alternator? Those have been troublesome for ages on road cars...
Oh, and that drive-through for Vettel (no that it mattered in the end) was obvioulsy owed to the home crowd. Alonso did pretty much the same thing last year (to Vettel, as it happens). And heck, in a fast sweeper, your natural racing line tends to drift to the outside of the corner. The stuarts must’ve been worried about a Tifosi lynching...
Uh, make that stewards. Duh.
