My imagination helps me a lot too

My planet orbits a red dwarf in a fairly tight orbit which in turn orbits a sunlike star at a distance a bit further out about where our asteroid belt is. The gravity is a bit less than earth so lots of things grow taller and larger.

Large oceans that help move heat around the planet. Lots of fresh water and at least one inland sea of fresh water with a huge very shallow bay full of reeds. A huge escarpment that runs further than I’ve explored. Metal rich mountains to the north. A large shallow fertile valley to the south with a large river flowing from the inland sea and beyond that forests of huge trees.

I live on a plain inside a ring of trees that resemble African baobab trees but grown in tight rings. On the plain live herds of large herbivores that are kind of like starfish. They slowly move across the ground eating the vegetation leaving the ground bare but tilled and fertile. They obviously crap the seeds. Also there are floaters about the size of party balloons. They have stinging tentacles and are kind of like insect eating jellyfish.

That sounds interesting. Animals that resemble sea creatures here on land or floating in the air is cool and something like science fiction writers of the old days might think up. Are there other humans or would that violate the therapeutic quality?

No native intelligent species but I’ve considered bringing humans in through something like a stargate to populate the planet. I even thought about bringing the military in to help explore. If I’m gonna have a society, I’m gonna need to trade and the American military has the manpower, equipment and expertise.

However I am constitutional “king” till things get settled enough for a working society gets it together. That means that there will be elected representatives but I have final say for the first few decades when I will step down and the people can elect a term limited president.

Interesting. Bringing in the military tells me its no Galts Gulch or colony of freedom escaping tyrannical Earth. is that correct?

.

The part where you are King reminds me of an idea I had, a day dream really, of inventing a power cell that replaces gasoline and electric companies. In the dream I spent a hundred billion dollars to buy sovereign land from a poor country and set up my own little country.

The Constitution put strict limits on the government, an elected 15 member Council acted as legislature or “managers” of what little government there was. The funding all came from my fortune, so there were no taxes and government could not run a deficit (on a strict budget).

I was sort of a veto holder too. The office was called the “Guardian” and I owned a 1-square mile estate that was technically its own sovereign nation with me as absolute ruler.

Trust me, its not without a lot of thought and ability to shut them out at will.

Having the lock on the Stargate or whatever untrademarked name you give it on your side is a good idea.

Plenty of things the people will want and need for earth and I just figured that the military (With civilian help) would be most effective at finding things of value for trading with earth.

Plus, I could choose which earth politicians and private citizens to negotiate with.

So its YOUR military, not a colonial force?

I had dozens of stories in various stages of being written or abandoned before my HDD crapped out. I can recreate some of them because I had posted some on a forum-site. Which is totally abandoned now.

One of those stories was about a colony being invaded by a tyrannical Earth.

Actually as I think about it, I might be better off to pick my own people from earth both military and non military alike. I’m sure some good people could be brought on board in return for a share of the assets they find.

I’d also have to think about who to bring in to get society up and running. The right balance of construction workers, farmers, fishermen etc is important.
