Yes! Very similar. Also kinda like the Celtic Fire Festivals at the end of January, early February. Up Helly Aa in Lerwick is one of my favs!

If I ever have the money I would love to take a major symphony orchestra to Burning Man. The folk there would most likely love it.

Carbon footprint? HUGE!

A little known fact is that the original Burning Man included a lot of hunters, NRA members, shooting enthusiasts who spent the week firing various small arms in the middle of the desert.

This year it's a weapon free zone last time I checked.

BTW these folk - for the most part - might be a little out there but NOT OWS types.

doesn’t making it a weapons free zone take some of the freedom out of the event?

Think of the awesome amount of money and energy wasted on the Burning Man event! If all that money was used for humanitarian purposes, imagine how many hungry could be fed, how many homeless could be sheltered, how many trees could be planted, how much C02 could be prevented from contributing to Global Warming just from that event alone!

Of course now that NASA's budget has been slashed and future space projects have been aborted, there's probably no further need for cash to finance those endlessly repeated liberal goals. /Sarc
