HGC, if my machine is locked up, how do I download anything? Download malwarebytes on the machine you are on now. Install the program on a USB storage drive. Boot your infected machine in safe mode. Stick the USB drive in and run malwarebytes.

Install the program on a USB storage drive. Boot your infected machine in safe mode. Stick the USB drive in and run malwarebytes.
Will that work? Don't you have to actually perform the install on the infected computer before malwarebytes will run?
In other words, I've always downloaded the INSTALLATION file to a USB drive, then moved over to the infected computer and installed the software using the USB drive.
If you install it to the USB drive on the non-infected computer, the registry entries that the application requires to run will only be set up on the non-infected computer. So moving the USB drive with the software installed doesn't seem like it would work since the registry on the infected computer hasn't been told how to run everything.
I'm happy if you're right, since it would save me a step, but I don't see how a non stand-alone application like malwarebytes could be run that way.
