I am retiring tomorrow after 33 years(8/31/2012).
I know people who've retired from local governments at 5k++ per month for *life*, with top shelf medical benefits and they are in their late 40s early 50s. That's like winning a lottery.
The crushing weight of this on private sector America is clearly not sustainable and drastic reforms should have been enacted many years ago.
I do not pay Illinois state taxes even though I live here! Best kept secret...heck I am not telling you. I will rest my case proving that you are not as smart as you think you are. But what else is new.
Gads! The Chicago gal is PROUD of living in Illinois!
You can’t fix stupid...
These “young taxpeasants” elected representatives who passed and executed bills that have added $6 Trillion to our National Debt and then passed and executed ObamaCare (without having read it). This bill adds 21 new taxes (beginning January 1, 2013) and an additional 16,000 new IRS agents to the government payroll. It is not the Randy Larsens causing this. It is the rotten fish leading all branches of the government. Yes, I am including SCJ Roberts who has a lifetime appointment and will screw us, We the People, for decades to come.
We pay no IL income taxes just like FL.
Chicago has no income taxes but it does have high sales and gasoline taxes.
Chicago water bills are cheap ($260 annually) for unlimited water. My sister pays hundreds of dollars a month.
There is no hurricane insurance.
Electricity is cheaper than FL but that is a local utility issue.
I could go on, but I fear facts will not penetrate that pea size brain of yours. Just sayin. ; )
I personally do not care who you work for.
I responded your comment below:
>>”I don’t think you guys are smart enough for a government job.”<<
That about sums you up.
Cheers!
Let me guess, you think government was smaller, not corrupt and run effectively prior to Obama? Ya think government at all levels suddenly became what it is in just the past 3 or 4 years?
Come on. No one buys that.
Government has grown and has become incrementally more controlling, corrupt and punitive for decades now.
Seems you’re the only one who failed to notice.
LOL! The joke is you! The joke is on you!
What's especially interesting in Illinois these days is the "shift" they're trying to pass, where they shift the bottomless, unfunded public teacher pension costs off to the local school districts.
You can brag about all your other bills all you want - when you get THAT one, the new improved ROBUST property tax bill, you'll choke on it. And the day is coming swiftly...
Property tax cap first, pension shift second
Right now, if they pass the shift, the legislation exempts itself from the limitations of PTELL. THAT's gonna leave a mark, on all you property-owning IL marks...
Your state, like California, is bankrupt. Anyone with any brains is fleeing the state. Guess what that makes you?
I didn’t the taxpayers to shut-up, I told you.
You were and are being obnoxious to a fellow Freeper.
Grow up and use the manners I suppose your momma taught you.
Enjoy your retirement... I’m not sure what you mean by ‘what happened in my life’ - any hints?
Idjiot, I was stating facts. I am not bragging. Your accusations indicate that you are very jealous. It is pitiful.
Are you jealous of the Military pensions?
You are a small jealous man. Pitiful.
“what does that have to do with the poster’s retirement and your inability to be happy for him?
Are you jealous of the Military pensions?”
When the self-described poster of the thread can work a modest job and retire a defacto millionaire, who pays for this, when we don’t have the money?
Same for military pensions. Who pays for this?
When federal/state retirees receive more than the producers of the country can pay for - making them unable to fund a similar situation for themselves with their own money, that is closer to tyranny than it is to jealousy.
It’s hard for the check receivers to understand that the check payers can likely never retire because they must pay for everyone else to retire before they can provide for their own - with their own money.
The true heroes of the country are the people that pay for it all. How many public servants even think to thank the taxpayer for their money?
It doesn’t really matter. It will stop through deliberate reductions in lots of things, including retirements, medicare, medicaid, social security, or it will stop abruptly in chaos.
Excellent post. Pretty much sums it up.
BTW, I’m a veteran and I’d bet a cookie the one babbling about the military in room #173 isn’t.
Take care.
We do not have the money because a majority of kirydil’s “young taxpeasants” not only elected Obama but gave him a super majority in both houses. I have very little pity on us producers. We elect the government we deserve. This guy worked 33 years with benefits. You and the two mental midgets piss on him because we, the electorate, voted an extreme radical into office who wasted time and money growing the public sector not realizing that the private sector pays for the public sector. How the hell is that Randy Larsen's fault? If Obama had not been elected, do you think we would have added $6 Trillion to the National Debt while growing the public sector and laying waste the private sector? No!
Who is going to pay for this? We are! If you are so pissed that you cannot even wish some guy a happy retirement, may be you should get into the face of your neighbors who voted for this government. Attacking a FRiend is NOT the answer.
My high school friends all voted for Obama. They are now weeping. They piss me off. Do I feel sorry for us Heros, the producers, who voted this government into power? Hell no. But I will be damned if we do not correct our mistake.
We need to stimulate the private sector. We need to stop funding the Federal Government (EPA, Departments of Education, Agriculture, Energy, etc.). Fire everybody in DC. Close the whole damn city down as far as I am concerned and freeze pensions like they did in the private sector. Notice how most private sector companies froze /eliminated defined pensions for present day workers but NOT retired workers? So, feel free to wish Randy Larsen a happy retirement.
Then we need to tell the baby boomers (that's me), guess what you ain't collecting SS until you are 70 and you get X% more if you wait until 75. Do you have the guts to tell your neighbors that and expect them to vote for RR come November? Probably not, but God forbid you wish a FRiend a happy retirement.
My God, our federal government has not had a budget for 3 effing years! Obama's proposed budgets were so poorly devised they did not get one vote in the Senate. When did that happen last? We are an effing Banana Republic! Some how that is Randy Larsen's fault? No, it is our fault for electing tyranny.
OK, I feel better now. : )
Thank you for your service.
And I bet a cookie to a donut that you will not give up your military pension.
Nope, I am not a veteran but I am just as proud to be a tax paying American as you are being a vet. Notice how I am not bitching about paying taxes for your pension? I am sure it is well deserved.
I could tell.
BTW, no need to thank me. It was my decision to join and I expect no thanks from anyone. BTW I have no pension from the service. I did my time and went back to work in the real world.
You seem a bit slow.
It's not my fault. People like Bush made American citizenship all but pointless. In fact, under Bush more Muslims were allowed into the U.S. after 911 than the previous two decades. He rolled out the red carpet for millions of illegals. This is no secret.
Not enough? Your government from both parties intentionally undermined and compromised our electoral process starting 20+ years ago.
Ya can't flood the country with tens of millions of illegal aliens and not expect it to change the course of this country.
It's like flooding the country with hundreds of billion in counterfeit cash and not expect it to affect your economy. Oh wait....They did that too!
Don't mean to ring your bell and ruin your feel good session, but you should educate yourself and stop with the Pollyanna comments.
