I didn't have a "V-8" moment decades ago when I was in college.

"Hey! I can go to work for the government, get outrageous, always increasing amounts of money for nothing, and retire at 55 with 90% of my last three years wage average! And the government will enforce the "deal" at gunpoint!"

When I went to college, the meme was that "government employment is one step above welfare".

Well, NOT ANYMORE, BABY!!!! Wha-HOO!!!!

Sorry, it'll take the yutes several years to finally figure it out, but when they do, the snapback is going to be a ROYAL B*TCH.

What stopped you from taking the civil service test and applying for a job? If you chose not to, that is then your problem not his.

It's unseemly to be justifying looting on FR....

You have my deepest sympathy with the loss of your brother. Utility business aint easy. Everybody hates you. The governments (local, state and federal), the customers, the press, everyone. Your brother was responsible for keeping the electrons flowing. Tough, challenging, interesting job. People are used to flipping the switch and they have no idea what it takes much less what it costs to keep the electricity flowing.

I was in the gas business. Ever wonder what happens to the gas when the weather comes in 20-30 degrees warmer than forecasted? ; )

LOL

I don't think you guys are smart enough for a government job.

Conservatives believe in small government NOT no government. That means there will be someone doing something. FYI, anarchists believe in no government.

1. Just because you two so-and-sos chose poorly does not excuse your jealous filled posts.

2. Again, (because it seems that you require repetition) your young taxpeasants voted for Obama. They got a tax spending, big government spendthrift of a POTUS. They effed up big time and now they, the young Obama voting taxpeasants, are in a heap of trouble.

3. Obama and his ways put not only the private sector in danger but also the public sector (because of jealous lice like you).

Congrats. I spent 24 in uniform and am now a “double-dipper” DOD Civilian. I know that many of us earn our money honorably and wish you a long and healthy retirement.

This is coming from a chicklet who hasn't figured out that she should have run screaming from the taxslave state of Illinois years ago. And from your screen name, you probably live in Poopcago itself.

I rest my case.

Honey, I can catagorically state that government pensions are not fat or bloated for the most part

Oh right!!

I hope you're not a public school teacher. Too funny!

This thread is like attending a government union meeting!

Ya got nearly half the country in their 50s retired from government.

What honking hoot! And people wonder why the country is flat broke?

Absolutely amazing!

Congratulations!

I’ve been working for 33 years also! I just turned 51. Think I’ll wait till I’m 65 or so anyway.

Aw, hell no. I’m quitting tomorrow. Wish me luck. I’m gonna need it. My first job was in a printing plant. 12 years and if I remember right I get to draw a whole 150 mo retirement. Course I gotta be 65 to draw it. Hope someone is watching out for my money. Company went bankrupt and closed 2 years ago.

2nd career is in sales. 21 years. Opened my own business. Closed it after struggling for a few years. Spent all my savings and investments trying to make it go. Didn’t stiff anybody when I closed tho. Matter of fact, I’m still paying mortgage on the property. But the good news is it’ll be paid for in only 10 more years!

On second thought I probably need to work just a while longer.

Congratulations tho!!!

Thank you guys for your clear-eyed posts.

My tax bills every quarter—I’m self-employed, and have to prepay—are astonishing, dispiriting, nearly unsustainable.

I’m with you completely.

It is really telling about the state of our nation these days how many “conservatives” are attacking you. Hard times ahead for all of us, it would seem.

I resemble that remark, except I am even worse - I am a slimy contractor now.

Randy, enjoy your retirement. You worked 33 years at one job and you earned it no matter what anyone else whines, gripes, b*tches, moans or throws at you.

I don't think you guys are smart enough for a government job.

There it is.

The arrogance of those who work for government never ceases to amaze.

On this thread some have actually suggested American tax payers are "jealous" of biggov bloated tax paid government benefits, lottery style retirements etc.

"Hey stupid ya should have got a job working for government"...yukyuk

Ya just knew the comment, "Americans are too stupid work for government" and the other comment where the tax payers are told to just, "Shutup".

LOL!

Amazing.

I was once told government has to pay top dollar and gold plated benefits to attract professional, educated, qualified people.

Then ya look at the government state of affairs and widespread government corruption at every level...It's just incredibly amazing what some people say.

Thank you guys for your clear-eyed posts.

No problem.

I am not trying to be mean to anyone personally, but it's become difficult to hold back. The government employee arrogant attitude of "I got mine", regardless of obvious consequences to the rest of the country, is just over the top.

Take care.

“My monthly retirement will be between $3600 and $4000 before taxes and my medical.

Is that too much after 33 years?”

With interest rates at 1% and less, you are a defacto millionaire almost 5 times over.

“The government employee arrogant attitude of “I got mine”, regardless of obvious consequences to the rest of the country, is just over the top. “

They do not understand that we simply do not have the money to pay them what they think they are going to get. Paul Ryans “Math” applies to government employees, retirees, as well as to social security and medicare recipients.

This isn’t anything but reality. Only in Greece and in the American public sector is the age 55 or younger retirement possible - as a defacto millionaire - but only for now.

You spoke the truth, many do not wish to hear it.
