And Kate Smith could have gone on a diet but it is beyond question that she and Vera Lynn rallied the people of their respective nations during World War II and made a BIG difference in the war effort. We could have used such talent in every war since. Instead, we had Mary Travers and Joan Baez (who later apologized) demoralizing our people and our nation’s efforts in Viet Nam.

I saw Kate Smith perform "God Bless America" when I attended the 1976 Rose Bowl game. That was probably one of her last performances.

Her version of Here Comes the Sun is my favorite. The song was also a hit for Charles King and Bert Lown.
