Chaperones, Judges and Moralizers: Abortion Debate Reveals Republicans' True Colors
Der Spiegel ^ | 08/23/2012 | Marc Pitzke

Timing is everything. Maybe Todd Akin chose his words with care. More likely, he didn't.

The über-conservative congressman from Missouri was a favorite to snatch a coveted Senate seat in November and thus perhaps help his Republican Party reclaim the majority in both chambers of Congress.

Then came Sunday. In a local TV interview, Akin held forth about a favorite issue of his. Abortion, he said, should be illegal even in rape cases because, he claimed, a "legitimate rape" rarely leads to pregnancy: "The female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down." …

Tough luck if you're gay, poor, an immigrant, a minority or an independently-minded woman: These retro-Republicans don't like you, don't trust you and don't want you making your own decisions. They resent government meddling in their own lives but love meddling in yours, as chaperones, judges and moralizers. …

Barf alert for sure. This is the kind of propagandizing out of the biggest mouthpiece of the infamous Bertelsmann Media. There's a different title in the header of the page:
US Republican Party Moves to the Far Right
This group partners up with the New York Times and CNN to spread this garbage. They've been doing it for quite some time as well.

"They praise new voter ID laws passed by eight US states so far, forcing voters to present identification at the polls in spite (or because?) of indications that this could suppress turnout among the poor, minorities and immigrants -- traditionally Democratic voting blocks."

ID checks are a normal part of living in a modern society. How many of us have been ID'd for buying alcohol? Credit card verification? In the case of voter ID, such will suppress voting all right. It will suppress voters who want to vote twice or vote for someone who could not make it to the polls. DemonRATs cheat and ID checks will suppress the cheaters.

Ain’t it great to see Bertelsmann pushing the “vote Democrat” line? They should stay out of US politics. They act like they own the US.

Like it or not, this is the exact public belief that has destroyed the Republican Party in California. People there don't really like Big Government as much as their apparent taste in legislators would seem to suggest, but have been led to believe that Republicans offer an even Bigger Government than Democrats.

Is “retro-Republican” really an accurate term? I’m retro-republican, and I think we need to restore the idea that the federal government is neither empowered to regulate what you do in your bedroom nor pay for the consequences.
