I support conferences for government just as I do in business when needed. They can help bring together employees, departments, and outside groups with similar missions for more efficiencies.
But they need to be organized as though they are spending their own money and frugally at non resort locations. They need an approved objective and mission and to meet those goals at the lowest cost. Large and small organizations (private or public) need to be brought together on an annual or regular basis to create cohesion, but they do not need to be lavish events where coordinators outdo each other by spending more and more of other people’s money (taxpayers or shareholders.
