LOS ANGELES Think family-friendly viewing times mean family-friendly content?
Maybe not.
The Parents Television Council (PTC), a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating parents about television content, has released a new study looking at nudity on prime-time broadcast television which reveals a major increase over the 2011-2012 season.
The study found that there were 76 incidents of full nudity on 37 shows compared to 15 incidents in 14 shows the previous ratings season, representing a 407 percent rise in incidents. Almost 70 percent of the scenes that featured such nudity were on shows which aired prior to 9pm, compared to 50 percent of the full nudity scenes which aired before 9pm during the 2010-2011 season.
In addition, the study says only five of the 76 full-nudity depictions contained an S descriptor to warn parents to the explicit nature of the episode.

“And so it was
Our beloved corporate gods
Claimed they created rock video
Allowing it to sink as low in one year
As commercial TV has in 25
“It’s the new frontier,” they say
It’s wide open, anything can happen
But you’ve got a lot of nerve
To call yourself a pioneer
When you’re too ***-**** conservative
To take real chances. “
—Dead Kennedys
I haven’t see it on the history channel, Science channel, or the Smithsonian channel!
Nearly 100% of people see full frontal nudity in the bathroom mirror every day and it doesn’t seem to be the cause of much outrage.
Which shows had full-frontal nudity? They have to be including premium cable to get to that number. I don’t recall hearing of actual full-frontal nudity on cable TV (FX, TNT, AMC, etc.) ... much less network TV.
They must be including HBO, Showtime, Starz, etc.
“Spartacus: Blood & Sand” alone could’ve doubled it over the previous year. My wife took to calling it “Spartacus: T&A”.

What can we as a nation due to stop this invasion of incessant incidences of indecency on our TV airwaves?
I didn’t even realize this went on, being fully insulated from television. I hope these people meet their just demise.
Ah. They’re including pixelated nakedness in the definition of “full-frontal nudity” ... though it does seem to contradict the “full” part. Makes more sense, though.

Blech.
That’s what I’m wondering.
No network shows nudity. At best maybe FX or AMC (Mad Men).
Dont watch TV.
You have options in the 21st century.
I have a HTPC, Hulu Plus, Netflix, and all of the BBC Documentaries on YouTube I can watch.
I seriously dont miss “regular” TV one bit.
And yet they censor words like ‘ass’ and ‘butt’ and ‘damn’ on old reruns like Frasier and Cheers which often destroys the meaning of the dialogue. It didn’t bother anybody two decades ago when these shows first aired. Even rock radio stations censor similar words from songs that are over 40 years old.
I was flipping through channels in broad daylight the other day and got tired of seeing “Hall Pass” (frontal male nudity lingering close up) and “Love, Actually” (several porn-type scenes) and tried Showtime Family, where I saw a naked (full back) Danny DeVito opening a closet to find a man holding a vibrator..... I switched it to HBO Family and saw two boys discussing how girls masturbated....
Hollywood considers those things to be family oriented?

Dorsal nudity isn’t a problem.
The majority of complaints I see about NOT having enough nudity on our (USA) channels comes from Europe... The people that are downloading our TV series to watch..
The difference between us and them is that we are still a majority Christian nation... Sadly, Pretty much anyone outside of the Americans (North, Central and South America) are pretty much anti-Christian :/
1 exception in North America is Canada. Canada falls in line with Europe :^(
(I can’t leave out Japan.. not sure about other Asian countries... but when I came to Japan 14 years ago, there were ‘game shows’ and ‘documentaries’ on normal channels that showed a LOT more than I ever saw on TV when I was growing up. Thankfully, most of those shows were after 9pm here. I have no idea what they are showing now.. I haven’t turned on the TV since 2003.)
It says primetime broadcast, so they are saying it’s not cable, but I’m very skeptical too. I have never, seen full frontal nudity on a network broadcast, primetime or otherwise, except for the Janet Jackson incident. Granted, I haven’t watched much primetime broadcast in year, but I have the sneaking suspicion that the definition they are using of “full frontal” is not the definition that most of us have in mind.
where is it pixelated? I haven’t seen them do that in a decade
