The reasons were numerous: Not all rapes result in “a completed act of intercourse,” Mecklenburg wrote, adding it was “improbable” a rape would occur “on the 1-2 days of the month in which the woman would be fertile.”
Mecklenburg’s third reason seems to have been picked up by Akin. A woman exposed to the trauma of rape, Mecklenburg wrote, “will not ovulate even if she is ‘scheduled’ to.”

Nobody denies that pregnancy as a result of rape is rare, heck regular pregnancy isn’t even all that easy as some couples have to really go at it for awhile to be successful. What people took issue with is Akin’s claim of “legitimate rape”, and his weird kooky mention of “woman’s bodies have a way to shut that whole thing down”, which was absolutely beyond idiotic.
As far as studies, the most comprehensive study on rape victims and pregnancy was done in 1996.
“A 1996 study in the Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, which looked at 4,000 American women over three years, found that “rape-related pregnancy occurs with significant frequency.”
Specifically, the researchers found that among sexual assault victims between the age of 12 and 45, there was a 5 percent chance of pregnancy each time they were raped.
This means that “among adult women, an estimated 32,101 pregnancies result from rape each year,” they wrote.

No have them come on here and explain why not taking the senate is not that important, and that repealing Obamacare isn’t that important either and it was all worth the effort of standing up for so called conservative values (as they define them).
