Many,many years ago the nuns taught me that spaces are not placed there.

Are we talking about "pre-Internet" or "pre-mechanical typewriter" years ago?

And were those "pre-Vatican II" or "pre-Nicean Council" nuns?

Seriously: Whatever you remember those nuns having taught you, it's time to come to grips with the fact that it's wrong.

I defy you to present a single book (the "Domesday Book" and the "Book of Kells" excepted) which adheres to such orthography!
