I am so hard to hear that your dog died. That is so hard; I’ve been through it.
A funny story that might help you a bit; after I had to euthanize my beloved Claudius; a black Lab mix who had gotten so old he was not even able to walk on his back paws and had lost control of his bowels.
As I have with every dog I have ever had, I stayed with him in the vet’s office while they gave the shot.
I couldn’t stop crying while I made dinner the next day; I would give Claudy some fried up fat and meat after I cut it off; he really liked it. :)
The day after I had him cremated, I was alone in the kitchen, frying up meat for dinner. Suddenly I smelled what can only be called, well, a huge f*rt. And it wasn’t me. Seriously. :) There was no one else there; but Claudy used to do that when his hips gave out.
I told my family about this; they said, “Claudius may be gone...but his spirit lives on.” LOL!
I really loved that dog. He loved moving to Canada because of the wild open spaces; we used to take him for hikes in the Rocky Mountains when we lived in Denver. Whenever I was sad, he would come over and put his nose under my hand, to make me pet him. Dogs are amazing.

What’s interesting, is that my tomcat, a wild and rather unfriendly animal who lives mostly outside, although he used to play gently with the dog and walked under him all the time, as well as occasionally brought me little gifts like dead or dying mice and birds, which I didn’t quite unppreciate, so maybe it is me who’s unfriendly, you’ve got to see the world from the animal’s perspective sometimes, anyways, the tomcat has changed a little since the dog’s passing, and he jumps on the kitchen table, faces me standing at the counter and starts meowing, a routine he never did before, and I know he’s not asking for food or water, his bowls are full, then what? I think he’s asking about the dog, or complaining about his absence. Just now, I was in the yard cutting down wild berry branches, cutting myself with the thorns, and the cat came over, found a place in the shade near me, and proceeded to take a nap, something he never did before, but of course the dog would habitually do, and did for the last time two weeks ago.
I miss him badly, and because I liked so much his personality, I’d like my next dog to be the same mix of white shepherd and yellow lab.
