vast majority will ask who? Not me. Like many, I remember him most as Commodore Decker in The Doomsday Machine. And, another WWII vet. RIP.

My immediate reaction was that William Windom died a long time ago, as indeed he did. The famous William Windom died in 1891--he was Secretary of the Treaury in President Benjamin Harrison's administration. The actor was his great-grandson.
Actually, the only reason I know about the earlier Windom is that I once met someone who had written his Ph.D. dissertation about him.
