It's not unheard of for an interviewer to play a role with the person interviewed to try to challenge them or draw them out or just to keep the interview going.
"Some people say" is standard practice in interviewing, and the interview subject -- if he or she is worth anything -- isn't going to simply crumple up and admit defeat or take the interviewer for an enemy.
