I don't feel like talking about Chairman Obama's plots, Nazi Pelosi's plastic surgery mistakes, Harry Reid's dementia, or the fact that we're on the edge of total economic, social, and political disaster. (In other words, let's pretend Ronald Reagan is still president, at least for this thread.)

Anyhoo, let's let our hair down! Let's chit-chat about music. So tell me, FRiends, what are your favorite types of music, your favorite songs, or favorite songs ?

Saw the Stones in ‘81 at the Tangerine Bowl Orlando with the B-52’s and Van Halen. I had just seen VH a month prior.

Self taught six string player and I also have a Lawsuit Martin 12 string LOL. I learned by listening to Willie Nelson's Troublemaker album. I like Old Rock 50's-80's, Old Country classics, Folk, Bluegrass, and Gospel. My dad taught me songs like Foggy River, I'm going back to where I come from, and a lot of other ones as a kid.

I like The Beach Boys music better than The Beatles. Sloop John B I really liked. A lot of people didn't know that Carl Wilson could have done all the great vocal back ups Brian did just as well as Brian. The song Kokomo proved that much. I also think The Eagles had some great musicians like Leadon, Meisner, Walsh, Schmit, and Felder. Leadon though was amazing in his tallents. I don't think they would have gotten anywhere without him. With The Beatles George never got the credit he deserved as a musician. He and Ringo were the great musicans of that band.

I generally try to stay removed from an artist politics. For example I like Peter, Paul, and Mary, and Kris Kristofferson. But I also listen to Pink Floyd Dark Side Of The Moon. Most underrated rock band? That's an easy one I'd pick The Traveling Wilburys. Harrison's friendships made that band a reality. Orbinson's death ended it way too soon.

The CD that I can't find in order to buy it that I've been seeking for several years? The Bellamy Brothers Featuring Let your love flow. I think it was their first hit. Some of their best work IMO is on that one. I have the vinyl of it though.

The dogs howl, the wife leaves the room and the bird (a Lory) sings along.

All in all it’s a golden moment.

Oh, the neighbors? They don’t say a thing. It’s one of my more minor eccentricities.

I like most types of what is considered Americana music......folk, c&w, bluegrass, along with some classic soul and indie rock.

MARK STEYN, did a hundredth anniversary tribute to Silvery Moon at his website in 2009.

Though written over 100 years ago, this song was sung by such rock performers as: Johnny Winter (instrumental) Little Richard, Gene Vincent, The Bachelors and Jackie Wilson.

My great uncle also wrote, in addition to Silvery Moon:

School Days, In My Merry Oldsmobile, Tammany and a song sung beautifully by Meryl Streep in the movie IRONWEED,
He’s Me Pal!

As for his great nephew, my tastes are show music, popular music, and a lot of rock and roll from the 50’s on.

I might make several posts to this thread, because I am a huge music fan, and as I have noted from a musical background. My dad was one of the writers of The Laugh’s On Me, the B-side of Frankey Valley’s first single in 1953. This record is a collector’s item. Valli was known as Valley in those days.

For this post, some of my favorite performers:

Frankie Valli and the 4 Seasons
The Pretenders
Foreigner
Dire Straits
Rod Stewart
The Cure
Jesus and Mary Chain
The Donnas
Night Ranger
The Four Evers

That is a most excellent video! I have marked it in my favorites.

There are several styles of Throat Singing, the one predominating in this piece is kargyraa or "mountain" style. It is the easiest (for me at least) and the first one in which I was actually able to carry a tune.

I'm working on a couple of the other styles, the "thin whistle" being the most difficult.

But I'm going to get there eventually.

“Most of these bands are über liberal.....”

True. But I’d have to classify the early Dead Kennedys as more libertarian than lefty. (See the original version of “California Uber Alles”.) If you want what could be considered “Right-Wing” punk, I’d have to go with Minor Threat, Social Distortion, or Ministry.

Truthfully, it’s not. I grew up with it, so it kinda stuck with me. I willingly admit to having the absolutely worst taste in music.

:)

I simply can’t learn how to play an instrument. I’ve tried, and tried, and tried.....I just can’t do it. So being self taught in music is pretty impressive.

Have you listened to Johnny Adams’ album “One Foot In the Blues” with Dr. Lonnie Smith on organ? Great jazz/blues fusion...
