"""""I cringe every time I see software ‘upgrade’ or ‘update’ recommendations. Upgrades/updates seem to create more problems that they fix"""""

I AGREE, mostly I let them alone until I just can't stand their reminders any longer.

I have picked up several FIXES, ways around the problem on this thread.

One was to pull the PDF file to desktop: WORKED

Another: to change the internet preferances in ADOBE, to uncheck the PDF.

That last one worked with a cavaet:IE now gives me a warning box of: TO help protect your Security, Internet Explorer blocked this site from downloading files to your computer, click for options.....X

I can live with both these options. Leave it to VERY SMART FREEPERS, THANKS.

Adobe Reader X is a nightmare! There also is a known issue when a user tries to open up a .pdf attachment in Outlook 2010 it closes. I had to go to edit—>preferences—>security (enhanced) and then uncheck the enhanced security “feature.” then I added an ADM in group policies to keep that from reverting back to the default the next time adobe update goes through.

Odds are that the next adobe/IE update comes by it will reset it back to the original internet preferences setting; maybe not but usually yes.
