Southern California has its seasons fire, fog, floods, and fracking quakes.
Even if the quakes can be predicted twenty minutes ahead, what will that do ? It’s still going to happen.
Unless buildings are already built to quake standard what does knowing for a few minutes before get you?
Just wondering

Well, it would give you time to take that pan of hot oil off the stove and move that beaker of acid off the edge of the table.

I wouldn’t mind having 9 seconds warning if I’m at the stove fixing soup or pasta. It could save me from getting a nasty burn.

Even if you have only a few seconds that's enough time for an automated switch to turn off the gas main.
