Dolenz is great; Nesmith is talented but a self-absorbed asshole; Tork is ....well, Tork.
Without Jones, they can’t really be the Monkees. Maybe...Monk.
It’s like.....shoot, pick one; how about Van Halen touring without Michael Anthony; not as much for his bass work (which was superb) but that amazing voice on backup vocals and harmonies. Just not the same.
Bands never cease to amaze me. They establish identities; they get their own character via the personalities that accomplish this: their voices, their instruments.
Then.....they feel they can just shed one or two key members who DEFINED that sound and everyone will just shrug it off.
Rarely happens. Deep Purple, AC/DC, a few others hugely benefited from the addition of new lead singers. Still, a rarity.
