I have purchased 3 Nez CDs in the last 6 months and I like them all.....they are hard to dislike actually. I have Nevada Fighter, Magnetic South, and Tropical Campfires.

A nationwide tv show.....millions of people listening to them on the radio.....selling records like crazy......
“We’re the young generation, and we’ve got something to say!”
This is it! The truth in a statement that will speak about our generation throughout eternity!
“Hey! Hey! We’re the monkeys!”
Yep, they nailed it with that one.....guess I’ll go eat a banana and swing in the trees.

I remember as a kid, running around the neighborhood on Halloween and trying to fill up my bag with candy as fast as I could so I could get back home in time to watch ‘The Monkees’. I still have my ‘Last Train to Clarksville’ 45.

I’d really like to see this. I was sorry I missed the last tour. I thought I’d seen them enough times (mostly with Nesmith), but when I realized how deep into their catalogue they were going for the sets, I regretted not having gone. This would be cool because no album or prior tour featured this configuration. There were two albums without Tork, one with just Dolenz and Jones, and one reunion album without Nesmith, but Dolenz-Tork-Nesmith will be a first.

Wow, going for the Most Obnoxiously Uninformed Post of the Day prize? Do you also believe that Mikey died from Pop Rocks and Pepsi?

You can call the Monkees a contrived, made for TV, Beatles rip off/spin off, designed to sponge off the suddenly materialized teeny-bopper crowd....and you would be pretty much right. But the songwriting was solid and for what they were, bubble-gum finger snappers, the songs hold up surprisingly well. I liked the days when good harmony, arrangement and background vocals were considered important.

Sorry, Ace, but it was well known back when these guys appeared that they did NOT KNOW HOW TO PLAY THEIR INSTRUMENTS. They were a creation from nothing and then they got lessons to learn how to play their instruments.

My buddies and I were amazed at how untalented these "pretty" guys were and how they could be thrust into big bucks without knowing their craft. Won't budge. I am obnoxiously informed.

And, if I'm not mistaken, after their kiddie like shows each week, they even had closing titles that admitted that their musical presentations were "augmented" by studio musicians.

I accept your apology!

It was great.  My wife and I both agreed it was probably the most enjoyable concert we've ever seen, and I've seen a LOT.  All those hits plus songs that surprised me they performed.  They were happy to be together and it showed!

Not sure what you mean.

These guys were the Milli Vanilli of their day, but at least they did learn to play their instruments.

“Rarely happens.” The Doobie Brothers

They weren't better.

Genesis, although it was a current band member taking over vocal duties after Gabriel left.

The only one, in that group, that didn’t play their ‘instrument’ at the time of the making of the Monkees, was Mickey Dolenz.

He was originally a guitar player and needed lessons to learn how to play the drums.

By the time the Monkees began touring in 1966, Dolenz could ‘hold his own’ on the drums.

Peter Tork and Mike Nesmitt were musicians from an early age.

Nesmitt could actually play several instruments by age 9 and Peter Tork was already playing with local bands before being hired for the Monkees.

All this information is out there on the net.

They could always hire Brandon Cruz from The Courtship of Eddie's Father to sing lead vocal.

He took over for Jello Biafra when the Dead Kennedys reformed.

Years ago, my wife and I saw the Grassroots, Gary Puckett and the Union Gap, Herman's Hermits (without Peter Noone) and the Monkees (without Davey Jones) at Wolftrap in Vienna, Va. Lots of fun.

A few years ago, when the Herman's Hermits were going on tour without Peter Noone, there was discussion of using Davey Jones for vocals. It never happened but the idea was great. Maybe the three remaining Monkees should see if Peter Noone is available. (Guess not - I see that Peter Noone and the Herman's Hermits are on tour next month in Canada.)
