Every once in awhile I’ll see a truck loaded with stacks and stacks of decent looking, but empty pallets heading away from the city back out to the country. Seems like a waste. I hope that they are the orchard’s own trucks and pallets, and they are just bringing them back to fill them up again.

It's probably something like that, being taken where needed.

Occasionally, they may go some great distance. But it was rare for me to see pallet loads in truck stops as overnighters (or taking a 10 hr break).

I remember talking to one driver concerning a load he had on, and we both we're sort-of surprised at the distance. It happens, but is the exception.
