Thanks for posting this Ernest. Time for a bookmark to be applied, for pulling up in future. The known poor surface temperature methodology is so well documented at this point that leads to a fair statement, that no one can be trusted to provide accurate temperature gradient readings for any of the US areas, or the rest of earth for that matter.
We have been shown from different sources of reputable quality that in recent times, the measuring systems leave much to be desired as far as making accurate temperature readings for a given area. Plus so few are still active compared to say thirty years ago. And Canada has so many less as well as Europe and Asia. South America has been barely touched.
In short. The system has become a joke over time.

The first response from alarmists will be:
“but the United States represents only 3% of the earth’s surface, so this doesn’t matter”

for which the correct retort is:
“the United States has the vast majority of temperature measurement stations. Because of this, United States stations are used to correct foreign stations for UHI effects. Thus nearly all foreign stations are using the wrong correction, one that shows too much heating”

You mean my temperature station next to the blast furnace at the local steel mill is giving inaccurate readings?

Thanks for the post. I first heard of WUWT [probably through FR] when it was in the middle of the investigation into station siting. Glad to see all that work has led to something substantial.

And won't it be fun to watch the outrage when the paper's released?

A hundred years ago Florida was so warm, oranges could be grown in St. Augustine. The ‘orange line’ as been moving south ever since — it’s in the Orlando area now and still moving south...

From the Press Release thread Gail Combs posted:

…PJM Interconnection, the company that operates the electric grid for 13 states (Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia and the District of Columbia) held its 2015 capacity auction. These are the first real, market prices that take Obama’s most recent anti-coal regulations into account, and they prove that he is keeping his 2008 campaign promise to make electricity prices “necessarily skyrocket.”

The market-clearing price for new 2015 capacity – almost all natural gas – was $136 per megawatt. That’s eight times higher than the price for 2012, which was just $16 per megawatt. In the mid-Atlantic area covering New Jersey, Delaware, Pennsylvania, and DC the new price is $167 per megawatt. For the northern Ohio territory served by FirstEnergy, the price is a shocking $357 per megawatt.

…These are not computer models or projections or estimates. These are the actual prices that electric distributors have agreed to pay for new capacity. The costs will be passed on to consumers at the retail level. source

We can do all the screeching we want, but the thugs are getting the great game in place, no matter what we do. The utilities may wail, but they do get a fixed rate of return based upon cash flow. Until this gets stopped in court with real charges of fraud, racketeering, and theft, with real jail time for the perps, the beat goes on.
