The Penn State penalty enforced by the NCAA is absurd. Paterno is dead and Sandusky is in jail. Why punish the 18-19 year old PSU athletes who had nothing to do with this scandal? I’m also perturbed at the secondary impacts this penalty will have on small businesses near the Penn State campus thanks to the NCAA. If they’re not filling the football stadium, then local hotels, restaurants, etc. will be crushed in this economy.

Your point is a pretty good one. Institutions cannot be guilty of anything.

Determine which individual within the institution are guilty and punish them. I don’t think anybody is claiming this coverup provided Penn State a competitive advantage in winning games, which should be the relevant issue for the NCAA.

What the NCAA is doing involves punishment of the uninvolved. How that helps the situation is quite beyond me. It’s mob rule. People hate pedophiles (you’d have to look long and hard to find someone who hates them more than me) so we’ll punish those who had nothing to do with the criminal sexual assaults or its coverup. Huh?
