George Jefferson was a real capitalist, and a self-made man that didnt just sit around and play victim. He valued hard work and didnt tolerate laziness.

The American Dream at work, even if Obama didnt think he built it.

I could only imagine what Mr. Jefferson would say to him.

He must have liked the heat if he was living in El Paso.

He and the rest of cast in “The Jefferson” did more to integrate races than all the laws in the land could accomplish.

I would actually credit Richard Pryor a lot for that as well. For his writing in "Blazing Saddles" and his comedic roles and standup routines. He made whites and blacks laugh at and with each other.

I think that leaves Marla Gibbs (Florence the maid) as the last one of the cast regulars that is still alive (not counting recurring guest roles like Lionel and Jenny, etc.)

I think you're right. Jenny (Belinda Tolbert), the 2nd Lionel (Damon Evans?), and Ned Wertimer (Ralph the Door Man) are still around.

Throat cancer, at the age of 57. There were threads here at the time (December 2006):

Mike Evans (Lionel #1) developed throat cancer sometime in the early 2000’s and died in 2006 at age 57.
