Crazy Ed: "There's no excuse for any American to have a semi-automatic weapon"

Ed Rendell on Fox remarking on the Colorado shooting. The gunman had an "automatic assault weapon that fired a hundred rounds without reloading" and "he only stopped using it when it jammed" and "it was only the cowardice of Congress that allows these assault weapons to be available to the public."
Crazy Ed: just ranting the vote-losing idiocy that Liberals won't say for themselves before an election.

Well, if I needed an excuse I can think of three right off the top of my head. James Holmes types, gangsta thugs and jihadists come to mind.

There are trenches dug around the world filled with dead bodies of folks that did nothing but turn in their weapons at the assigned time and place.

Fast eddie- get the description correct first. It would be an "auto-loading" firearm. "Automatic" of course conveys the "scary" gun for stupid people who don't know-- and vote liberal. Here's fact, fast eddie: ONE concealed carry patron inside the theater, with proper aim and training could have stopped this. And the FACT is there were police outside the event and inside the building and THEY DIDN'T.
Just a small point there on the police. Why no action-- don't they know what to do or do they wait for SWAT?

double barrel and a sack of #4 shot?I'm glad you brought that up.
What is better for home defense?
#4 or 00 buck?
I don't have through the wall concerns so which is better for total stooping power?

Im not a gun owner because guns make me queasy. You'll be a lot queasier if you ever have to see a loved one raped or killed because you are unable to defend your home.
People don't buy guns because they're fun. Many people enjoy guns, but that's not why you buy one.
You buy one because the alternative is not acceptable.
Queasy is irrelevent.
Vomiting is irrelevent.
Sh***ing your pants is irrelevant.
Wake up.

My husband’ uncle was an avid gun owner. A year after he died his aunt committed suicide with one of the guns. I know that’s a rare occurrence, but when it hits close to home it’s not easy to put in the back of your mind.

"What gives you the right to even question my ownership of firearms?" Why Yes Eddy, the same Constitution that affirms my right to own that firearm.

The man simply doesn't understand!
The government's job is to protect the rights of the Citizens, not to take them away.
He wants the exact opposite thing to happen.

I know thats a rare occurrence, but when it hits close to home its not easy to put in the back of your mind. FRiend, guns are nothing but a tool, not unlike a hammer, screwdriver or a knife.
All can be deadly weapons in the wrong hands but once you learn how to use them they become very useful.
I can understand your reticence, and I am sorry for your loss, but your Aunt could have used any one of the tools I mentioned to accomplish the same thing.
The best way to understand a tool is to be trained in it's use, you gain confidence and peace of mind knowing you can use it properly.
It is up to you, you don't have to exercise the right, but some day you might be glad you did.

There’s no reason for DHS to have 450,000,000 rounds of .40 cal ammunition, is there? /s

Yes there are reasons for citizens to own semi-auto firearms. One of the major reasons to to protect us from imbeciles like Crazy Ed and his ilk should they come into power ... kinda like now

I use Winchester AA light trap loads for the house gun, 7 1/2-8 shot. At across-the-living-room ranges, it’s wicked bout excessive penetration is not a problem. (I live in an apartment building)

00 buck gets my vote. Thanks, I try to read about this issues and as you can imagine there are numerous opinions.
I guess I'll have to go out and do my own testing on the matter.
Seems to me, either load would be devastating at close range though.
I've seen some advocate heavy bird shot for indoor defense, lots of opinions out there.

Its a toss up at ranges inside a home. I have fired both and they are both devastating. #00 = 9 .32cal balls. #4 = 28 pellets. They also are loud. Your ears would ring for hours but your target would be destroyed.

You could also modify bird shot to a “cut” shell or a “wax” shell (homemade Glaser)

BTW, I didn’t mean to sound dismissive of your opinion, I've read many of your posts and would never discount what you have to say ;)
