Few things offer the unlimited opportunity to ‘invest’ your time and energy as children - and the reward is often commensurate.
Some people only want to ‘invest’ in themselves - a doomed proposition as that is going to ‘go out of business’ sooner than most expect.
And then they wonder - “what did I live for?” on their deathbeds in a way that those surrounded by loving children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren will NEVER have to ask themselves.
I can’t even remember what my life was like before we had our kids, and I sure wouldn’t want to go back to it.
“...on their deathbeds... surrounded by loving children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren...”
All true, but how many people get this anymore?? I am concerned about these current generations.
