When I lived in Seattle, I found all sorts of sources for vinyl. My personal favorite was estate sales. On many a “half price Sunday” I would offer ten bucks for a whole box of good stuff and they’d take it. I’m talking some unopened or virtually unplayed “valuable” albums. Unreal, really.
Here in rural central KY, fuggetaboutit. The peddlers malls want $2-$5 for pure crap (Firestone Christmas album that had been used as a doormat for a while), but in Louisville and Lexington there are quite a few places. Same prices as Seattle, too.

Can’t really do that if you are going for “in wall”. that’s the dilemma here.

It’s hilarious, frankly. They actually sell expensive little devices designed to lift your speaker wires off the floor to prevent acoustic frequency interference with the signal on the wires. And some of those nitwits there swear by this kind of crap.

With regard to your comment about compressed files. Can I assume you think CD’s in the wave format are exact reproductions of the original source music? If so would not WMA (lossless) be an exact reproduction of that same wave formatted music?
I realize MP3 is far from perfect in it’s reproduction of WAVE but at the rate of 256 kps how really noticeable would it be (the loss) without using diagnostic equip to measure output using an A/B switch?

Whenever I need speaker wire I go Home Depot or an electrical parts counter and buy #12 or #14 awg lamp cord by the foot. If the capacitance of such wire manages to roll off frequencies above 18K by 1 dB....I really don't give a damn.
I’m even more of a cheapskate. I get my speaker wire at garage sales and estate sales. People will sell a whole box of the stuff for $1. And if you’ve had to go to radio shack, et al to get speaker wire, you understand.
I now have a box crammed with speaker wire with some over 100’ long. Some of it is agw22 but most is 16 or thicker. I probably have all the speaker wire I’ll ever need, but still, when I see a bunch for a buck or a quarter, I have to buy it.
That scene also impressed me as showing not only the hype side of audio sales but the true “good” nature of that character.

That’s what I did and it was audible to me listening to classical music on my system in my living room. And that’s all I was concerned about. I doubt it would make any difference at all to the poster which is why I suggested he not spend a fortune on speakers that will radically outperform the source.

How large is the listening area?
What sort of size are you looking for with the speakers?
WOuld a system with smaller speakers and Subwoofer(s)(which can be ‘hidden’ work for your goals?
How loud do you want to play?
I frankly don’t think Klipsch or Bose are very good these days compared to what is available.
Aside from speakers if you like listening to older recordings on mp3 this software will help fix older recordings and up sample to mp3’s

I think the reason this is a good place to start is that we are such a diverse group that a few here will point you to where you DO need to go.
But yeah, it’s odd. Asking the question is one thing, but signing up to ask is kinda weird. It is almost like what a troll might do: get a track record of “polite” posts going before showing his true colors.

I believe those Monster cable, and expensive audio cables were debunked by James Randi and many others.. I just did a google search on it, and many audiophiles are still up in arms about Randi.. It seems they have to feel that their $20,000 audio cables were worth every penny.
more power to those folks though, if they’ve got the money and they feel those 20k cables have value, then I’m all for them spending their money where they want.
I guess that’s half the reason I frequent FR, I believe in liberty. We have the choice to make our own decisions, at least for now, and only partially.
With some of those guys it is like arguing with liberals. You can even bring up the double blind test proving that there is no difference and they still will not buy it. In fact, it’s comical. It was fun the first couple of times I tried to discuss it with those guys, now I just kinda laugh.
I just make sure my low impedance speaker wires are as thick and short as possible, and I worry about more pressing things.
BTW, if someone is serious, they get the $20,000 (per amp) mono amps and put them right next to the speakers. But, but, what about the wiring inside the speaker cabinet? :-)
In the beginning they were but that is no longer the case. Still they are better then excellent and are light years beyond anything even twice the price. I have owned them since 1982 or so and never had a single problem.

Thanks but all my stuff is already "fixed" using software similar but not as detailed as what you suggested.
These days I use an Avantone CK-40 stereo condenser with a Marantz PMD-661, recording in mid-side, and dematrixing in post production. Reasonably portable when both are mounted on a mounting bar of my design, on a lightweight tripod.
Unfortunately, I didn’t have the recorder with me on the 4th, so I took pics and a few movie shots with my Canon SLR instead. Would’ve been great to record some double-system video, for a change.
Used to have a slew of AKG mics (CK460s, CK414s, and a CK426 stereo) with PCM recorder and later, DATs. All back in the day when I was doing a lot of concert recording and a little broadcasting.
