I used to do lawn work for an elderly woman a few miles from this one. She had a life sized doll that she said kept her company. She wasn’t crazy, just lonely plus she used the doll as a means of security.
She may not have been certifiably crazy but she was WIERD by any standards.

Did you see that Will Smith film, “I Am Legend”? The character Will Smith plays does something similar except his was with mannequins.
