In the summer of 1962, the management of the Academy cinema on Oxford Street in London thought it wise to warn patrons that the film they were about to see, the big-screen adaptation of John Wyndham's novel about killer plants, The Day of the Triffids, "contained graphic horror" and "might prove disturbing to those of a nervous disposition". Today, Wyndham's mutant shrubs look blandly innocuous. But on the night of Thursday 12 July, in a basement club called the Marquee, just a few feet below the cinema where the Triffids was screening, something much more unsettling was about to get under way.

In the half-century since playing their first gig in 1962 at the Marquee Club on London's Oxford Street, the Rolling Stones have shown a remarkable visual flair as shown in these pictures from The Rolling Stones 50, a new book commemorating the band's career
.
Keef is one of the greatest writers and performers ever.
And there are still bands performing from the Golden Age - the Stones, AC/DC, Def Leppard, Lynrd Skynyrd, and Golden Earring, to name a few.
Music since Y2K? Mushroom growths, by comparison.
Mick lived a few miles from here in the 80’s when he was married to local Gal Jerry Hall.
He didn’t fit in real well. The marriage ended.
There....... after many decades of being told the "stones" are cool... I have vented my opposition.
OMG.....I feel sooo released.
But I like the scene from Apocalypse Now with Lance ( I think that's his name) water skiing behind the boat with ‘Satisfaction’ playing.
Fiftieth Anniversary for the SEARCHERS as well. And they’re still playin’ and touring.

Iggy Pop is at 45 years and still going.
Nonsense! Is this what you call music? How about Wild One, Bobby Rydell, I’m Sorry, Brenda Lee, and my favorite is: Beyond the Sea, Bobby Darin. But then again music appreciation is subjective, no one can claim an imperial title, despite my opinion.
The ‘Oo blew them away....you want to see a real rock band at the height of their powers, go watch The Who at the Isle of Wight Festival in 1970......what a powerhouse they were back then.
Correction: Iggy Pop is at 49 years and still going.

I read Keef’s book “Life”, he really is a pretty sharp tack, he remembers everything, despite all of the drugs he’s taken over the years.
Ive always liked him.
I never liked Mick.
I just listened to Exile On Main Street. Love the Stones.
What can I say but Satifaction and Don’t You Bother Me lead me down the road for blues/hard rock. I remember hearing those together on KAAY Beaker Street Underground Radio. The DJ said oops was supposed to play Under My Thumb glad he didn’t.
One of my favorite all time Stones songs is Midnight Rambler
