I have disowned every lib in my life, family included. It has proven to be one of the best decisions I have ever made. Lots less stress and BS all around.
As for those concerned over the family issue, I can only say this. Why must it be YOU that shuts up, sits lilently and doesn’t ‘cause problems’ at family gatherings? Are you happy to have to keep quiet while libs run roughshod over everything you believe in just to keep mom and grandma from having to deal with it?
If you think it’s worth it to you, then so be it. But it just makes the problem worse. If more people said ‘not gonna happen’ the rest of the family would likely not be so cowered either.
The Amish call it “shunning,” when the community cuts ties with the societal offender. It may make the offender reconsider his stance, and it certainly promotes mental health for the others.
No parent whose values have been rejected, spit upon, and generally trashed by a Leftist son or daughter should leave anything to such a wayward child. Why should they inherit the fruits of right living from parents or grandparents whom they have dishonored?
I really became tired of being kicked under the table, or having my leg pinched, by my wife when her brothers and father would start in on conservatives and GOP voters. One time, back in about 2006 or 2007, we were out together at a birthday dinner for her father when the talk turned to GWB and Iraq. First, I tried not to get involved, but when the talk turned ugly in the bar, I simply told my wife I was leaving, with or without her, and walked out without saying a word to any of the others. She met me in the parking lot as I came by the front with the car. It was fun to do!

My mother, sister and brother are VICIOUS libs. Nasty, angry- for example, sister proudly declares Carter is the best president the country has ever seen. Mother exhorts hatred against Republicans for being prochoice. We have cut ties completely- sad to say but hubby and I are much happier. (Also, sister and brother don’t work and believe it is our duty ‘as family’ to send them money as needed- think Cousin Eddie’s family in Vacation.) And yes, too many holidays hubby and I would sit quietly while President Bush was called the most horrible names and Republicans were castigated with vicious lies.
But, no more.
This thread reminds me of what my wonderful father-in-law used to say- never argue with a jackass. It confuses the animal and makes you look stupid.
