I’m from NY, and have travelled through East NY. It is one of the worst areas in the city. When you read reports of someone being hit by a stray bullet, it’s usually in East NY. Many taxi drivers will refuse to service that area. It is war zone. So it’s not suprising that Trayvon is getting a mural there.

Well then it sounds like a perfect area for a shrine to him. But who will win out in the portrayal??? The gangbangers and lowlife wannabees won't want him portrayed as the little 12 y/o. They will want him shining through on that mural as the pot smoking lean drinking street fighting head-banging bus-driver beating badass no-limit-nigga that he had become in the end. No matta how they start it out, that is how it will wind up.

Anyone seen that toxicology report yet. Why is Corey holding it hostage??? Will we need a bailbond hearing to get it released???

I used to teach in East Flatbush (Tilden High School) and one of my students, who I believe lived in East New York, was shot in the leg by a stray bullet while she was lying on her bed doing homework. That little girl had aspirations of being a track star, all ended by the insanity of “the streets.”

Another of my students invited me to her dance recital, which was to be held during the early evening hours on a weeknight in a place called The Pink Projects. I attended the event and afterward was given an escort to my car by some of the parents who were there so that I would be able to make it to my car and home in one piece. I remember them unwilling to take my “No, that’s all right,” for an answer.

I have always cautioned my students about life on the streets whenever they want to use that lifestyle as some sort of badge of honor. You don’t “live on the streets;” the streets are for dying.
