Anytime I, as a Catholic, viewed a religious thread
where he commented on the tenets, practices, etc.
of Catholicism, I found him to be schizo: holy,
kind, prayerful .. then regarding Catholicism, he’d
flip and become snarky, mocking, superior and very
offensive, and I stopped having any interest at
all in his jaundiced views.

Examples:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/religion/2421970/posts?q=1&;page=1

Regarding believers who have a true and sincere
faith and practice it earnestly, it’s understandable
that offense would be taken when someone not of the
faith chooses to be a critic (I’m excluding violent
cults and islamists), judge and nitpicking. Faith is
embedded, in the core and soul of the believer .. it’s
very personal and close to our hearts. And it is what
it is ..

Excluding prayer and news threads, of course, it
wouldn’t make me sad to see the religious debating
threads end tonight. The likelihood for hurt feelings,
resentments and offense is too great. Like they
say: politics and religion .. off limits in social
discourse with someone who’s not family or friend.

Well, this IS a political discussion forum, so that’s
inapplicable, but I think religion debates are too
fraught with the possibility for conflict and
stinging disagreements.

We have enough chaos and heartache going on now,
watching our dear nation being disassembled and
decimated before our eyes ...Lord, have mercy on
us all.

(JR, just my 2-1/2 cents for consideration..
it’s been on my mind for awhile.)

The moderator addresses that often enough - if one is too thin skinned to be on the RF don't go there. Simple solution and good advice.

Well, if you’ve been on those threads, you know that there are Christians who are Bible-believing, Evangelical (and perhaps Dispensational) - who are going to say that Catholic teachings are DOCTRINES FROM HELL and are going to lead those who believe in that straight into the Devil’s hands.

Those Christians consider the Catholic Church and its long history of evil doctrines to be anathema to real Christians.

SO ... if you perceived Quix as thinking that way - you’re probably very right - but so do I think that way, too ... and when it comes down to the end times when Jesus comes again - the Catholic Church and it’s evil doctrines are going to end up in the Pit of Hell and nowhere else.

Now ... THAT ... is not just the consideration of a few people (whom others may like to label as disturbed or hateful) - but it’s also “Bible teaching” that you’ll get from some of the best and most respected Bible teachers in America, who lead many to Christ. This is not some crazy or minority position but is pretty much the teaching of many in Evangelical Christianity.

Someone holding to that view - is in VERY GOOD COMPANY with a whole lot of other Christians who take the Bible at its word - and not some other writings coming from a corrupt and evil church.

[And I suppose that what I’m saying is what you would be talking about - not wishing it was on Free Republic any more. However, this is the exact nature of what someone is going to get - if - one gets into Christianity and especially the Christianity of the Bible - straight from God’s Word, itself. Jesus himself was not very friendly to the evil-doers who MISLED other people, just like Catholic Priests of today do with the people. And we don’t have to be mean to other people - on a personal level - but when it comes to Biblical doctrine and pointing out what “doctrines” are from the DEVIL HIMSELF and from the Pit of Hell ... there can be no compromising on that, which is why you get people who will “call out” the Catholic Church as an evil institution and due to be utterly destroyed by Jesus Christ when He comes again.]

I think what galled Quix about some of the Catholic threads was a few Catholics would say there is no salvation outside the Catholic church. I think that set him on edge because it was so contrary to what he believed as a born-again Evangelical.

I have many friends, especially in Right To Life, who are Catholic, and they love Jesus and believe they are saved by Him, and Him alone...as I have many Protestant friends who feel the same way.

It’s when you get the hard-core fundies who say the Catholic church is the anti-Christ, and catholics aren’t saved, and then you get the hard-core Catholics who say that there’s no salvation outside the Catholic church, that tempers rise and fur starts flying.

Quix just let his (strong) emotions get the better of himself...
