I did not get to attend any of those seminars, but I think it would not be wrong to suggest that their efforts were a big reason why today the pro-life side is in the majority. I DID read some of their literature and it was spot on in cornering those who wanted everyone to ignore the reality of human life in its early stages.
I started gathering Francis Schaeffer’s films after that seminar and reading more of his books. But, then again, I had already been reading his books before those seminars, which is the reason why I knew I had to go.
Afterwards, over the next few years, I gathered up videos that he had made and bought several of his long series of films direct from his place in San Jose (where his son and a partner in the business of making those films were). I went down there to make sure I could get all of them that I wanted and then I lent them out to churches and others who were interested in them.
After those seminars, I remember when the video the Silent Scream came out and I got one of the first copies available and it was in the news that it was coming out. Well, since I had been lending out Francis Schaeffer’s videos and films - I knew I had to get that Silent Scream, too. I connected with a Catholic agency of some sort that dealt with opposing abortion and told them that I had it available. They told the local news station in Portland, Oregon that I had it and then the news station called me to verify and I told them yes - so they were going to feature on a noon news segment where people could go to get this video. I was one of about three or four listed.
My phone rang off the hook immediately when that news station aired that segment and some people were mad (and cussing me out) and others were interested and wanted to see it.
SO ... Francis Schaeffer was definitely instrumental for me - but I was already interested in Francis Schaeffer before the abortion issue came up for me, so it was a natural progression for me.
