Just watch Prime Minister’s Question Time on C-SPAN on Sunday evenings to get a good idea.Here (today,at least) you have to know a doctor (or,at least,a hospital) to get health care.In Britain you have to know a government bureaucrat.

John Lott was on Jason Lewis last night and said that most of his economist academic friends in the UK know their colleagues in the medical schools and that he's found that NOT to be the case here in the US colleges.
The reason is that in the UK, you need to be connected to someone in the medical business in order to get decent treatment. (just like the old soviet nomenklatura)
