You may be right, but in the case of Gingrich, this is pretty much his last chance to get in the WH. I don’t see him making a 2016 run, or a 2020 run. This is it for him.
If Romney is smart enough to offer Gingrich the spot, what possible reason could Gingrich have to not take it? It might taint his future political prospects? I don’t think so.
No, you can be pretty sure of this: if Romney says, “Newt, you want VP?”, Gingrich will say, “Yes, please.”

We have a very different take on that one. Newt’s reply would be more along the lines of “No Thanks.”
I seriously doubt Newt would enjoy playing second fiddle to anyone, but especially Romney, whose presidency (sic) could very well be a disaster for Conservatives and middlin’ for the country.
I know that were I at the end of my political life, I wouldn’t want my name to be an asterick after Romney’s name.
I think overall Romney will pick someone with a relatively low national profile with a decidedly solid but non-contraversial resume’.
