Liberalism is a mental disorder. It worsens over time. It will start out as a good natured disagreement. At some point, they will be unable to resist talking about politics with you. They’ll start lording the libtarded propaganda / talking points over you, trying to score points and wearing you down with their persistence. Then as it grows even worse, especially if you try and debate them, or if you get frustrated and start returning insults, they will come to the conclusion that you are not just wrong, that you are evil. At that point, they will go beyond obnoxious, or may even break off contact with you.
I saw it happen with a very close friend of mine - someone who was the Best Man at my wedding. Now we hardly ever talk.

Wow- you sure summed up my experience as well. I have lost three female friends and there is a fourth one that knows we cannot talk about most anything of significance,or that one is down the hatch, too. I am the one who changed, however. Used to live in a university town where I was a flaming Lib, too — but then Talk radio came to town, and I had a long daily commute. The rest is history (thank you, Neal Boortz for beginning the Wakening!)
