In basic training...we had a guy dropped back into our flight for various reasons. About six days after he arrived...it’d become apparent that he simply wasn’t taking showers. He’d shave...but he absolutely didn’t take a shower. We had three guys go up together to “stinky” and just lay it out that they’d help him in the morning...to reach the shower, and he wouldn’t leave the shower until he did what he was supposed to do. We didn’t have a problem after that.
I imagine that “stinky” lasted out four years and left the military. And maybe he just never took a shower after basic training. We just don’t know.
Some people just need encouragement.
I working with a guy that smelt really, really bad. Finally a co worker told him that he smelled like Bigfoots jockstrap. Stinky replied that he hadnt washed his work pants in three weeks.
I dont know why people shun soap and water..if not for their sake then for the poor souls who have to smell the stench.
I remember a family canoeing trip. One of our sons wouldn’t bath in the river. He had gotten to the age where that was a problem. So we ambushed him, tipped him out of the canoe and I had the soap ready. I had forgotten that. On a hiking trip, perhaps afraid we would do that again, he stripped down and skinny dipped in a mountain stream, dancing around. Sadly, no camera.
I worked for Coopers & Lybrand in the early 70s. (One of the largest international CPA/consulting firms.) We shared offices with between two and four people. We had a guy we actually called “Stinky” with whom no one wanted to share office space.
Even after being counseled, he just wouldn’t bath. He really did reek! Never could understand how a well educated white kid could not understand about hygiene!?
You’d think that a guy, after discovering women, would try to put together then most desirable package. Maybe we should have “found” him a girlfriend?!
Later found out he was from Arkansas and bathing was something his family did only on occasion, I don't think they even had indoor plumbing. Bathing just was NOT part of his life experience.......but he changed!
I worked in a warehouse with a smelly guy who was so rank you could tell which aisles he’d walked though for several minutes after he’d been there.
The manager talked to him several times about it to no avail and eventually fired him.
